Because forgetting
them is not an option
The National Animal Rights Day (NARD) is an annual day observed around the world on the first Sunday in June, for the purpose of giving a voice to all animals and demanding their rights. It is Memorial Day and Independence Day for the animals combined!
On this day, special NARD events are held in dozens of major cities in more than 50 countries – from Tokio to Mumbai, Rome to London, Los Angeles to Mexico City – to Commemorate the billions of animals who die every year by human hands, Educate the public about humanity’s treatment of animals and the alternatives to it, and Celebrate the progress that is being made towards ending the suffering of animals on Earth. The NARD events have been dubbed “The biggest vegan collaboration of all time”!
Our vision is to establish a National Animal Rights Day in every country on Earth, where the day will continue to be observed until all animals are free from enslavement and their rights are established and protected by law.
Our Events
The NARD events are unique in their format and style. Unlike a ‘regular’ protest or demonstration, they include 2 parts:
- A Memorial Ceremony to commemorate the billions of animals who die every year by human hands, often in the presence of some of the actual victims. The ceremony usually ends with the reading and signing of The Declaration of Animal Rights.
- A Celebration of the progress that is being made every year towards ending the suffering of animals and bringing forth their freedom, with vegan food, speakers, entertainers and other attractions.

Our impact
Since we started 15 years ago, the NARD events have been respectfully but unapologetically confronting people all over the world with the animals they eat, wear, and experiment on, in the places they least expect it: in the streets. They’ve also been bringing tens of thousands of animal rights activists and vegans together, empowering them to keep fighting for animals year after year. And most importantly, they’ve been providing millions of animals with the dignity they deserve – to be loved, commemorated and celebrated, knwoing that they matter and are not alone.
Below are some of the metrics by which we measure this impact:
ANIMALS COMMEMORATED
At our events, including 1,000 animals given a proper funeral service, and burial or cremation.
PEOPLE REACHED
By our events since we started, and the photos and videos shared from them online.
ACTIVISTS PARTICIPATED
In our events around the world, in more than 50 countries and 170 cities.
